Vogel State Park ‘A Four Season’ Adventure!

Certain places you frequented as a child will stay with you forever!  Vogel State Park is a place of fond childhood memories for me!  Whether it was a family reunion, a church recruit or a summer family outing, just the mention of Vogel State Park and I was so excited!   The park has a lot of amenities; more so today than back then.  Our families last visit was Autumn 2016 and the colors that season were splendid around the end of October.  It’s time to go back!

One of Georgia’s oldest and most beloved state parks, Vogel is located in Blairsville, GA at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest.  The park offers 17 miles of hiking trails with one being around the 22 acre lake.  The park also includes benches and swings to rest and take in the awesome view that surrounds you!  Vogel offers camping, primitive camping, picnic tables, grills, beach, docks for fishing, and much more!  The highlight of our last trip was Trahlyta Falls.  The Falls is an over flow of Lake Trahlyta at the park.    It’s like a hidden paradise! As if the park itself isn’t glorious enough on its own!

The trail that leads down to the steps and overlook of the falls, is a bit steep.  The distance is a mile down and back up.  I would suggest a walking stick for the ones who can’t get around easily.   Once you come back from the falls, you can continue the loop around the lake.  Do take the time to just sit and watch the beauty of nature around the lake and mountains. You will definitely enjoy! This is a ‘must do’ adventure while visiting the North Georgia Mountains, even if you are a resident, it’s open year round for all to enjoy!

Lakes and mountains can be breathtaking during snowfall! If you plan to visit during the snow, please drive safely.

Summer is grand to visit the park for Swimming at the Vogel State Park Beach, Kayaking, Paddle-boarding, Pedal-boats, and Aqua-cycling on the lake(Seasonal rentals are available)!  You also have access to a group shelter which seats 90 and a lake pavilion which seats 100.  Weddings and reunions need to be approved by the park. There is wifi, and a playground for the kids!  Don’t forget to visit the general store before leaving to grab a souvenir and see their awesome museum.  With a 4.5 star rating, what are you waiting for?
